Julia Torgovitskaya is a Russian-born soprano who was raised in Los Angeles, California. She has just begun her final year of undergraduate studies at Tufts University in Boston, where she is
majoring in Music, International Relations, and Russian and East European Studies and minoring in
Philosophy. Julia recently sang Dido in Dido and Aeneas and Laurette in Le Docteur Miracle, both at Tufts University.
In February 2009, she will sing the role of Mrs. Webb in Rorem's Our Town (based on the classic play by
Thornton Wilder). Julia has also performed several full recitals and feels equally at home on the concert
stage as she does on the opera stage.
In June 2008, Julia was invited to perform with Songfest, where she sang the role of Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni,
Sonia in Lehar's The Merry Widow, and Frasquita in Bizet's Carmen. In July 2008, Julia had the priviledge
of studying and performing with Ann Baltz' critically acclaimed intensive training program, OperaWorks,
where Julia peformed the role of Gretchen in the newly created improvised opera I-Candy.
In addition to her musical studies, Julia has also been busy learning languages and can now speak 5 languages:
English, Russian, French, Italian, and Spanish. She is currently learning German.
A student of Nina Hinson and Carol Mastrodomenico Moylan, Julia plans to pursue a career in opera.
